Classes and Demos

Scouting America Metalworking Merit Badge

I'm a leader with Troop 100, Griggstown, NJ and a merit badge councilor for metalworking, blacksmithing. My merit badge class is available on request and runs the full day (9-5) program for up to 6 scouts at a time. $60/scouts covers materials & lunch. Contact me to make arrangements.

Heirloom Knife Class

Forge a knife that means something more. In this class you’ll forge a knife using materials that have special significance to you. Perhaps it’s a file from your grandfather’s shop? Or, maybe it uses handle wood from a tree that stood in the yard of your childhood home? It starts with a consultation on appropriate material selection and ends with a knife that you and your family will pass down and cherish for generations.  Learn more about the Heirloom Knife here.

This class typically runs 8-12 hours over 2 days dependent on the style of knife and materials selected, and costs about $400 - $500. Optionally, you can choose to forge with sibling, son or daughter, or friend to share the experience for an additional $100. Youth participants for the class must be at least 13. A close time estimate and final price will be given after our consultation call. Contact me for more information and scheduling. What story will your Heirloom Knife tell?

Blacksmithing & Bladesmithing Demos

Demos are available for small groups at my location or at your outdoor event. Here I'll demonstrate blacksmithing technique, explain the process, present historical information and probably slip in a few dad jokes. I'm also available to Blacksmith at Renaissance Fairs and historic sites. Contact me to discuss the details, availability and pricing.
